My family moved to Seattle from Santa Cruz, California when I was two years old. I left to attend college at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, California, then slowly made my way back up the coast, stopping in Eugene, Oregon for law school and then returned to practice law in Seattle. Seattle is my home and I am here to stay.

I enjoy being a lawyer but I am very aware of my role and duty as a lawyer. In life, there are the athletes, the artists and the scientists. These gifted people enrich our lives. We watch or attend sporting events, go to the movies, read books or listen to music. Where would we be without Babe Ruth, Arnold Palmer, Frederick Chopin, Muhammad Ali, Frank Sinatra, Paul Newman, Marilyn Monroe, Jonas Salk, Madame Curie, Alexander Graham Bell, Thomas Edison and on and on? All of these people created greatness from the spaces within their own hearts and minds.

Lawyers are different. Lawyers do not create beauty. They do not discover life-saving medicines. They do not invent technology that changes the way we look at every day life. Unlike athletes, artists and scientists, lawyers work with a client, a person. Always. The lawyer, put simply, is someone who has gained a fundamental education in law school, passed a bar examination, and has set out to help other people work through problems or challenges that involve the application of law.

While lawyers may not create beauty or innovation, they often help develop, maintain and protect the people that do. A lawyer is like the coach who helps the athlete refine his skill. A lawyer is like the teacher that offers the student new perspective and understanding. A lawyer is someone who is there to help you when you are stuck, to help you when you need to move forward but are unable.

There are no paintbrushes or test tubes in my office. Here at the Linville Law Firm, my practice focuses on helping business owners develop, maintain and protect their companies from start to finish. I like to think of myself as an outsourced business partner - helping another person resolve a business problem or challenge when and as necessary. Its unlikely I will enrich the cultural aspects of your life or improve your health. But a good lawyer, like me, can help get you by a particular problem or challenge so that you can focus on your own creative enterprise.
